Ancient Joseon
Between the Old Stone Age to the New Stone Age, some 500,000 years ago, Koreans lived in the Korean Peninsula. However, they did not form a structured society and there were no politics or the concept of private possession. As people started to use metal for their primitive agricultural activities, the New Stone Age gave way to the Bronze Age. The Bronze Age laid a foundation for the establishment of a nation, and saw the formation of Ancient Joseon, which is the first nation established in the Korean Peninsula.
Ancient Joseon was founded by Dangun and developed from one of the small nations centered round villages, into a Kingdom which dominated the nations in the peninsula.
Ancient Joseon shifted from a bronze culture developed at the beginning of the kingdom, to the Iron Age. Around this period, Ancient Joseon frequently came into conflict with the Han Kingdom of China and when the Han emperor Wu-ti dispatched a massive invasion army, the country was eventually defeated in 108 BC after one year of resistance.
